 button) to get them.

A pitfall appears in the game as a round white ball with a red exclamation mark on it. It
 really has only one use. To annoy your neighbors, and to amuse yourself at the villagers
 expense. Take your shovel and dig a hole somewhere. Now while standing next to the hole,
 open your inventory and choose the bury option for the pitfall... The next person to walk
 over the little brown dirtmark (including yourself) will fall into a pit.

The dummy item isnt supposed to be in the game. It was a placeholder item created by
 Nintendo to hold the place for a real item. Apparently it was not removed from the game
 before finalization. Though many people have held onto it for their own reasons, I myself
 will be dumping any dummy items I receive so as to avoid corruption of my village data.
 Corruption is not a proven fact caused by dummy items, but better to be safe than sorry,
 I say.
